Cher Dance

Famous folk dance of the Lusai tribes

Cher Dance is a folk dance of the Lusai tribe. Also called bamboo dance, it is performed at the time of the death of a person to protect his/her soul from evil spirits and guide it to the heaven. Two or four people sit facing one another holding bamboos in both hands. Girl dancers keep their legs in between the bamboos. The dancers move their limbs in tune with the movement of the bamboos.
