Chelakkara




Chelakkara is a village in the northern border of the Thrissur District. Thrissur is to south-west of Chelakkara.

This village was the seat of powerful Pisharoti Chief Tottassery Talachennaver. It also witnessed a battle between Tranvancore and Cochin forces on one side and the Zamorins on the other, in which the latter won the battle.

Narasimhamurthy Temple is the major shrine here. Among the festivals celebrated are Navratri and Vaikunta Ekadasi.

Surrounded by the Machat Mountains, Chelakkara is in close proximity to Talappilly. Pazhayannur to the south and Vadakkancheri to the west are the surrounding places. At a distance of 15 km is Mayannur.
