Charata is a festival celebrated by the
Baiga tribe of
Madhya Pradesh. It is celebrated especially by the youngsters belonging to this tribe.
Prior to the festival, the youngsters get involved in the making of wooden masks. On the day of the festival, the young people form groups and dance wearing the masks. People honor them by offering food and wine. These groups then move over to other villages to perform the dance.
