Chandrasekhar Temple

Kapilash Temple

Chandrasekhar Temple at Kapilas Hill near Kapilas is the abode of Lord Shiva. The temple is about 1,829 cm in height with its face towards the east and stands on a narrow flat surface on the eastern slope of the hill. Besides the image of Lord Chandrasekhar, the finely carved images of Lord Kartikeya, Lord Ganesh and Parvati are placed inside the temple. The two temples dedicated to Narayan and Viswanath are situated east of the main temple. These temples are approached by a flight of steps. A spring that emerges between these two temples is believed to be sacred and pilgrims take ablutions here.

On the occasion of Shivratri, Chandrasekhar Temple with a cluster of other temples and a medieval fort are visited by thousands of pilgrims and tourists. From the temple, one can enjoy the picturesque view of the forest and the natural stream that runs through it.

The nearest railway station is situated at Dhenkanal (26 km). Regular bus services and other local modes of transport are available from Dhenkanal to Kapilas.
