Chamunda Devi Temple

Chamunda Devi Temple is a Shakti shrine, situated 10 km west of Palampur, on the Banner River of Himachal Pradesh. This shrine holds the wrathful form of Durga or Chamunda. The idol in the temple is considered to be sacred and is completely hidden beneath a red cloth. Its natural surroundings are suited for meditation, prayers, and spiritual attainments. Here the devotees offer prayers, worship, and offerings for their ancestors. Lord Shiva is also worshipped with holy water from Ban Ganga. It is believed that the temple is located at a spot where the famous battle described in the Devi Mahatmaya took place.

According to the legend, Kali killed Chand and Mund, the demons who tried to harass Goddess Ambika. Hence Kali is worshipped as Chamunda.
