Buxar District




Buxar District of Bihar has an area of 1,624 sq km and a population of over 1.4 million. The town of Buxar is the headquarters. Buxar is historically important. This was the place where the final battle for supremacy in north India was waged between the East India Company and the allied forces of the Mughals, and Nawabs of Bengal and Awadh in 1764.

Economy depends on agriculture and industry. Rice, wheat, sugarcane and maize are some of the important crops. Industries include several rice and oil mills. There are mainly two rivers, the Ganges and Karmnasha.
