Burnpur is an industrial town situated near the banks of the Damodar River in Bardhaman District of West Bengal. The city of Asansol is only 5 km east. Dishergarh (towards west), Sitarampur (towards the north), Jaykaynagar (towards the east) and Hirapur (towards the south) are the towns nearby.
The township of Burnpur also has steel complexes (IISCO). Burnpur is only a few kilometers away from the National Highway 2.
Burnpur Railway Station serves the town.
