Bunji is located in the northern part of
Leh District in
Jammu and Kashmir, on the left bank of the
Indus, a few miles downstream from where it is joined by the
Gilgit River. This is a region where there is major human settelment along the river Gilgit.
This river system separates the Deosai Mountains (in the Pakistani-held sector of the west-central part of the state of Jammu and Kashmir) from the Zanskar Range.
