Buddha Peacock

Malabar banded peacock



Buddha Peacock is an amazing variety of butterfly found common in Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu (mostly in Nilgiris.) It belongs to the family Papilionidae of order Lepidoptera. Head, abdomen and thorax of the Buddha Peacock are black, heavily dusted with irradiant green scales. The wingspan is about 9-10 cm. A wide bluish-green discal band is seen on the upper sides of both forewings and hind wings. The posterior is also dusted heavily with irradiant green scales.
