Brahmanippattu

A type of domestic devotional offering, Brahmanippattu is usually performed in connection with marriages. Women from Brahmani or Pushpini communities are entitled to do it. In Brahmanippattu, the performers stand around a decorated stool on which some symbolic representations of Bhagavathy are placed. Then they sing devotional songs. The dance is accompanied by the beating of bronze plates. Gradually the songs ascend in pitch and the women dance in ecstasy.
