This east facing temple has links with sage Shankaracharya. Besides the presiding deity, the temple houses Yakshi, Vata Yakshi and Dwarapalaka. In front of the holy place there is a Buvaneshwari Yanthra. Legends have it that, after killing Mookasura, Goddess Mookambika performed a Marana Homa here. The main festival of the temple is celebrated on the Makar Sankranti day.
