Bolghatty Island is located just half a kilometer across the waters from Marine Drive, in Ernakulam
. It is the site of the famous Bolghatty Palace
, built by the Dutch in 1744. The palace later became the seat of the British Resident of the state. Today the palace has been converted to a Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) owned hotel.
The Bolghatty Island features a fine golf course and its charming location amidst backwaters make it a picnickerís delight. Several vantage points on the island offer lovely views of the harbor and the sea.
Ernakulam Town Railway Station (North) is 1 km away from Marine Drive. Regular boat services connect the mainland with Bolghatty Island.
