Birla Industrial and Technological Museum




Established in 1956 by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, the Birla Industrial and Technological Museum models and exhibits various branches of physical sciences, industry and technology including original objects.

The museum has several separate galleries for atom, motive power, transport, iron and steel, copper, petroleum, mining, popular science, electricity, television, communication, computer section, children's gallery and electronics.

Popular activities such as film shows, demonstration-lectures, hobby activities, and periodical programs of sky-observation through telescopes are arranged. Special attractions include underground Mock-up Coal Mine, Rabbit House, snake pits, aquarium, aviary, and bonsai and cacti garden.

Museum Hours: 10:00 to 17:30 hrs. Open everyday except on Mondays, Doljatra and Kalipuja. Filmshows from Tuesday to Friday at 15:00 hrs, Saturdays and Sundays at 12:30 and 15:00 hrs.

Ballygunge Railway Station is the nearest railhead. Buses are available from Esplanade terminus.
