Birju Maharaj, an eminent Kathak dancer, was born on 4th February 1937 to a family of talented dancers. His father and renowned dancer, Shri Achyan Maharaj, was his master. Birju Maharaj is well-known for his unique way of presenting dance dramas. In addition to be a dancer, he is a musician, composer, teacher, director and a choreographer. For his incredible contributions, he has been awarded Padma Vibhushan by the Government of India. His institution, Kalashram, imparts training in the field of Kathak, yoga, painting, and dramatics.
