Situated in the southern sector of
Chilika in
Orissa, Birds' Island is a scenic atoll covered with herbs, shrubs, trees and creepers. A rich variety of various algal communities and few mangrove species are found here. The granite rocks are the remnants of
Eastern Ghats. Some of the rocks had turned white because of the folic acid from the droppings of the birds.
Apart from residential birds, migratory birds are also sighted in this isle during winter. The huge exposed hanging rocks lining the island are a favorite haunt for the adventurous lot.
The island is 1 km away on the eastern side of the Ghantasila hill, and 4 km from Rambha.
