Bijli Mahadev Temple is a highly revered shrine dedicated to
Lord Shiva situated in
Kullu,
Himachal Pradesh. Situated at an altitude of 2438 m above sea level, the temple site offers panoramic views of the
Kullu and
Parvati valleys. The temple can be reached only after a 6 km long trek.
The temple is renowned for a 60 ft high flagstaff of Bijli Mahadev, which shines like a silver needle in the sun. It is visible even from Kullu. This tall flagstaff attracts the divine blessing in the form of lightening and it is said that with every flash of lightening, the shivling is shattered into pieces. Each time this happens, it is put back together by the priest and covered with sattoo (a paste of roasted gram and wheat powder) and butter.
The temple is just 14 km from Kullu.
