Father of Assamese prose

Bhattedeva (1558-1638) is often referred to as the father of Assamese prose. He is credited with the composition of 'Katha-Gita', the translated version of Bhagavad Gita. This work is thought to be the first ever prose rendering of the Gita in any regional language.
