Bharathiyar Illam

House of Subramania Bharati



Bharathiyar Illam is located at Triplicane, Chennai. It is the house of Subramania Bharati, the great Tamil poet and nationalist leader. The poet spent the last years of his life in this Illam. This house was renovated by the Government of Tamil Nadu in 1993 and was opened to the public on Gandhi Jayanthi (October 2nd) that year. The house contains the photographs of Bharathiyar, his family and friends. The Illam also holds the letters the poet wrote to his friend Nellaiappar and one from Gandhiji which is in Tamil.

Bharathiyar Illam is open to public from morning to evening.
