Bhaijiuntia Festival is celebrated on the Mahastami Day of
Durga Puja, mainly in
Balangir and
Sambalpur districts of
Orissa. It falls on the 8th day of the bright fortnight in the month of Aswina (October). On this auspicious day women undertake total fasting for the whole day and night to seek the blessings of
Goddess Durga for the long life of their bhais (brothers).
