Bhadrachalam, the famous Hindu pilgrimage center with the
Sree Seetaramachandra Swamy Temple, lies on the left bank of the mighty river
Godavari. The speciality of this temple is that it has 48 forms of Lord
Vishnu. It is situated in
Khammam District near
Warangal. Bhadrachalam got its present name after Bhadra Maharshi who was a devotee of
Lord Ram.
The origin of the present temple is attributed to the finding of idols on Bhadragiri hills by a woman called Pokala Dammakka who built a modest structure for placing the idols. But, the actual temple structure was built by Gopanna , who was the tahsildar in the court of Abul Hassan Tanashah. Jewels such as Kalikiturai, Pachala Pathakam, and Chintaku Pathakam are still found in the temple.
Kalyana Mahotsavam, the famous festival of Bhadrachalam, is witnessed by scores of people on Sreeramanavami, the marriage anniversary celebration of Lord Ram and his consort Sita.
