Bekkeswara Aalayam

Bekkeswara Aalayam is an ancient temple located at Bekkam village in Mahabubnagar District. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, this temple houses a beautiful Shivlinga, believed to have been discovered from an ant hill. Lord Shiva is worshipped here in the form of Bekkeswara.

The literal meaning of the word 'bekku' is 'cat.' According to myth, a cow came to this place and emptied its udder over an ant hill willingly. Legend is that a cat which was hiding in the ant hill came out and drank the entire milk. When the villagers dug out the ant hill, they found the present Shivlinga of Bekkeswara Aalayam. There are many Shiva temples within 15 km range.

Hyderabad Airport is the nearest airport.
