Behula Dance




Behula, a popular dance of Assam, depicts the love and devotion of a woman towards her husband. This dance tells the story of a woman named Behula, who fought with the serpent goddess Manasa to reinstall life in her dead husband.

Behula is performed by a single female dancer who portrays the protagonist in the story. In between, the performer acts like the serpent goddess. The music is provided by a pair of drums.
