Baurias

Bauria is a tribal community dwelling in the states of Maharashtra and Rajasthan. They are considered to be the sub-group of Bhils.

The community members are an itinerant, hunting gathering tribe. They are engaged in gathering of forest products. Baurias cultivate crops such as maize, millet, cucumbers, cotton, rice, lentils and barley.

The houses are built on hills. Each consists of bamboo walls and thatched roofs. The tribes speak a distinct language known as ‘Bauria’. They follow the exogamous system.

Baurias worship non-living objects and spirits, along with worshipping many Hindu gods and goddess. Ancestor worship is also a part of their custom.
