Basthali

Basthali, also known as Bastali or Vyasasthali, is a sacred village located about 27 km from Karnal in Haryana. Sage Vyas, who wrote the Mahabharata, was lived here.

According to the legend, the river Ganges flowed underground into his well to save the sage from the trouble of going to the river. To prove the flow of Ganges, lota and loin cloth which he had left in the river was also brought back through this water.
