Basak (dichroa febrifuga) is an evergreen shrub that grows throughout the Himalayas
. It belongs to the family of Hydrangeaceae. The shrub requires light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils. Basak can grow in semi-shade (light woodland) or no shade. The root and leaf can be used as a febrifuge. Basak is used as an emetic also. It produces leaves throughout the year. Basak flowers between June to August.
