Baruni Festival

Baruni Festival is celebrated on the thirteenth day of the Manipuri month of Phairen (Jan-Feb) in Manipur. This festival is dedicated to Lord Shiva.

On this occasion, devotees make a pilgrimage to the Nongmaijing mountain, on the top of which a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is located. They climb the mountain during the night after taking a ceremonial bath in the Chinggoi stream. Offerings are made to the Shivling enshrined in the temple and devotional songs are sung.
