Barpeta’s Bhortal Nritya

Barpeta’s Bhortal Nritya is an attractive dance form usually performed during festive occasions in and around Barpeta and Guwahati, in Assam. It is an extension of 'Sankari' culture, developed by a well-known Satriya artist, Narahari Burha Bbakat.

The dance is performed by 6 to 10 dancers equipped with cymbals. They perform the first bit of ‘Zhiya Nom’ and produce a number of formations displaying the cymbals.
