Barnawapara Wildlife Sanctuary




Barnawapara Wildlife Sanctuary is about 86 km from Raipur and is located in the northern part of Mahasamund District in Chhattisgarh.

Extending over an area of about 245 sq km, the sanctuary's vegetation is tropical dry deciduous forest. Sloth bear, tiger, panther, chital, four horned antelopes, sambar deer, neelgai, barking deer, gaur, jackals and bison are the major fauna spotted here.

Best time to visit is from November to June.

The nearest airport is at Raipur. Nearest railhead is at Mahasamund (60 km). The major railheads are at Raipur and Bilaspur. PWD forest road connects Barnawapara with Raipur via Patewa and with Pithora on National Highwaty 6.

There is a forest rest house at Barnawapara. There are also forest rest houses on the outskirts of the sanctuary at Ravan, Pakreed and Nawagaon.
