Barbil is an industrial town in the Keonjhar District of Orissa
. The place is rich in Iron and Manganese ores and hence the majority of its population are migrant labourers from the nearby states, especially from Bihar
. Kalinga Iron Works, one of the major players in the mineral based industries of the district, is based at Barbil. Barbil is 135 km south-east of Rourkela.
Nearest airport is at
Bhubaneswar. Barbil Railway Station is situated on the
Howrah line of the South Eastern Railways. Tata-Barbil passenger and the
Barbil-Howrah Jan Shatabdi Express serve the town. National Highway No.232 ends at Guali near Barbil.
