Barapani




Barapani is a scenic settlement situated 17 km north of Shillong in Meghalaya. It lies along the National Highway 40 and is near the state’s border with Assam.

Barapani literally means ‘vast water’ – a name derived after a legend which attributes the origin of Umiam Lake. Barapani, with its rolling hills, picturesque countryside and the soothing north-eastern climate, presents itself as an ideal getaway for those who wish to spend some time close to the nature. Major attraction of the place is the legendary Umiam Lake.

Nearest airport and railway station is at Guwahati.
