Banithani Painting

Banithani Painting style belongs to the famous Kishangarh school of painting, originating from Rajasthan. This style of painting features portraits containing exaggerated features like elongated necks and thin body. The colors are subdued giving the paintings a distinct look.

The Banithani painting style was developed by Raja Sawant Singh, the erstwhile ruler of Ajmer. Bani Thani was his court singer and poet. The king’s fondness towards the poet led to the development of this particular style of painting. Mughal elements were added to this style of painting because of the close contact between the king and the Mughal ruler.
