Banias

Banias are by tradition the main trading class in Haryana. They are classified into Aggarwalas, the Oswals and Maheshwaris. Banias mainly confine themselves to local trade in Mandis (wholesale grain markets) and in the villages.

The word 'Bania' is derived from the Sanskrit word 'Banias,' which means trade.
