Bangady

Banagavady

Bangady, also known as Banagavady, is a scenic and tranquil village located about 12 km north of Belthangady taluk of Dakshina Kannada District. It was once the capital of Banga Chiefs who were the subordinators to the governors of Mangalur – Rajya and also a seat of Moola chiefs. Now the descendants of Ajila chieftains are living here. There is a ruined fort called Ballalaraya Durga to the east of Bangady. From here one can have a panoramic view of the Kudremukha hill range and the Nada or Jamalbad Fort. Another significant thing in the village is the temple of Somanteswara to whom the Bangas were devotees.

Belthangady is about 19 km from Venur. The nearest airport and railway station are at Mangalore.
