Bandi Chhor Diwas




Bandi Chhor Diwas is an important festival of sikhs, which is celebrated as Diwali. This festival has got a religious significance in the sikh tradition.

It is believed that the foundation stone of the Golden Temple was laid during the time of Diwali in 1577. Also it is celebrated as the day when Sri Guru Hargobind met his followers in Amritsar after being released by Emperor Jehangir from the Gwalior Jail. Earthen lamps were lit throughout Amritsar.

Guru Sahib is also known as Bandi Chhor baba. The name Bandi Chhor Diwas is named after him.
