Bammera Potana

A Telugu saint poet



A saint poet of the 15th century, Bammera Potana was born to a Niyogi Brahmin family in Bammera, a village twenty miles away from Warangal. His principal works are Narayana Satakamu, Veerabhadra Vijayamu, and Bhogni Dandakamu. Excessive use of alankars (figures of speech) such as similes and metaphors can be found in his writings. Potana is also credited with the translation of Vyasa's Bhagwata Purana into Telugu entitled Andhra Mahabhagavathamu.
