Balani Devi Temple




Originally constructed in the ‘Huna’ architectural style, Balani Devi Temple in Chilhar is situated 1700 m above sea level and 155 km from Dehradun. The main deity is Goddess Balani Devi, the sister of the four main deities – Vashika, Mahasu, Pawasi and Chalda of Jaunsar Bhawar. The structure of the temple is unique. The yearly festival of the temple commences after Diwali celebrations. The colorful tribes from Jaunsar Bhawar participate in this festival which adds more color to this festival.

Balani Devi Temple is situated on Dehradun -Tuni motorable road via Chakrata, 26 km short of Tuni and 60 km from Chakrata. Buses are available up to Chilhar Band, 3 km from the village of Chilhar. From Chilhar Band local vehicles and jeeps link up to the village.
