Balaji Temple

Balaji Temple is a highly revered shrine in Washim. During Auranzeb’s reign, the idols in the shrine were buried to save then from destruction. Later, the images of Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu, Lord Ganesh and Goddess Parvati were recovered from here. Bhavani Kulu, the then Diwan, erected the present structure in 1779 and as per inscriptions, it took over 12 years to complete.

The presiding deity of the shrine is carved out in black stone and is adorned with sparkling jewels. Dev Talao, a large square tank, can be seen at the center of the temple. The inner chamber of the temple has a dome plated with gold. A major draw is a grand fair held here during Ashvin (September-October).
