Ayilyam Puja is dedicated to the serpent god and goddesses - Nagaraja and Nagayakshi. It is performed on the Ayilyam day in the Hindu months with much pomp and splendor. The main offering is the Noorum Palum. Sarpa Bali is performed to remove sarpa dosham. Pulluvanpattu is also performed in temples during the Ayilyam Puja. The Ayilyam festival held in the Mannarasala Sree Nagaraja Temple in the months of September and October is a major draw. Large numbers of devotees throng the temple to obtain the blessings and remove the obstacles in life.
