Avul Pen Festival




Avul Pen Festival is a tribal festival celebrated at Hurmur in the Utmur taluk of Adilabad District, Andhra Pradesh. This region is inhabited by the Pradhans and Gonds. Avul Pen festival is celebrated during the month of Chaitra and Shravana, which is the month of April, to ward off the pox epidemic. The celebration is to honor and invoke Avul Pen or Pochamma, the deity of the pox. Avul Pen is also the presiding deity of marriage.
