Avial is a popular vegetable side dish of Kerala. The ingredients include grated coconut, tamarind, cumin seeds, turmeric powder and chilly powder. Sometimes, curd is used instead of tamarind. Pumpkin, drumstick, potato, mango, jackfruit and green chilly are the vegetables used in the preparation of avial. Finally, coconut oil and curry leaves are added for flavor.
