Avanimoolam Festival is celebrated during the August-September months. The festival celebrates the coronation of Lord Sundareshwarar (
Lord Shiva). On this occasion a play is performed, where the temple priest enumerates the stories of Lord Shiva in 64 miracles, which protected the city of Madurai from adversity.
