Attakalam is a traditional mock fight held during
Onam in
Kerala and the participants are mainly boys. This game begins when one group stands inside a circle which is marked on the plain sand floor and another group tries to strike at and bring the former outside. During this combat, if any one player of the second group tries to get inside the circle and try to touch the body of any one amongst the other group then the latter are allowed to beat and ward him off. When all the players inside the circle are brought outside, the turn goes to the other group. If anyone is left within the circle who cannot be driven out his party is declared victorious. Prizes are given to the winners as a token of appreciation of their training and strength.
