Athamallick

The erstwhile capital of the Kadamba Dynasty, Athamallick is one of the fabulous tourist destinations in Orissa. Against the background of the Panchdharana Mountain ranges, Athamallick has many places of both religious and tourist importance. Renowned as the center of religious activities, the town has a temple dedicated to goddess Maheshwari and a Vaishnavite monastery at Belpunji. Deulajhari, 4 km from Athamallick, figures notably in the tourist map of Orissa for its hot sulphur spring and shrine of Lord Shiva. Besides, the town’s attractions include the temples of Lakshmi Narayana and Lord Jagannath, the majestic Satakosia Gorge and the beautiful picnic spot, Kukudadarah. Athamallick, located in the central part of the state, is 80 km from Angul, 235 km from Bhubaneswar, 200 km from Cuttack and 160 km from Sambalpur. One has to take the Sambalpur road off Cuttack and Angul, and get down at Boinda Chowk to reach Athamallick.
