Asweyuja Bahula Thrayodasi




Asweyuja Bahula Thrayodasi is a special event observed 2 days prior to Diwali. This day is observed to highlight the significance of wealth in life. Lord Kubera, the god of wealth, is worshipped on this day. On this day, an image or symbol of Lord Kubera is placed in the worship room. Honey, jaggery (unrefined sugar) and dry dates are placed before the image. A lamp fuelled by pure ghee (clarified butter) is lit. Lord Ganesh is worshipped before starting the actual ritual. A special mantra called Kubera Mantra is recited. Lord Kubera is worshipped whole-heartedly to usher in wealth and prosperity. On the day of Asweyuja Bahula Thrayodasi, shop keepers and businessmen clean their shops and establishments and apply new paint. All the account books are closed. Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, is worshipped to bring success in the business. Some people even arrange a doll show.
