Asur Tribes are believed to be an offshoot of the Proto-Australoid group. They inhabit areas of Chota Nagpur region, which covers much of
Jharkhand state as well as adjacent parts of
Orissa,
Bihar and
Chhattisgarh.
Asur lives in small villages. Traditionally, they are the iron smiths but they mostly live on agriculture and traditional pattern of hunting and fishing. Asur has their own language called Asuri, similar in many ways to the Munda language.
