An eminent composer of the 18th century, Arunachala Kavi was born in Tillaiyadi of Thanjavur district
in Tamil Nadu
. The first musical drama in Tamil, Rama Natakam is his contribution. This was first played at Srirangam temple
in 1771 and became popular within a short span of time. His other popular creations are Seergazhi Sthala Puranam, Seergazhi Kovai, Hanumar Pillai Tamil and Ajomukhi Natakam.
Arunachala Kavi was also well versed in Sanskrit and
. For his invaluable contributions, he was honored by Maharaja Tulaja, the King of Thanjavur and several other patrons of that time.
