Arulmigu Thaanthonriyeesar Temple




Arulmigu Thaanthonriyeesar Temple is one of the Nagarathar clan temples located at Ilayathangudi, about 25 km from Karaikudi, in Sivagangai District of Tamil Nadu. This 8th century shrine is renowned for its great architectural value and it has the biggest tank, ‘oorani’ of all other temples.

Arulmigu Thaanthonriyeesar Temple enshrines Thaanthonriyeesar as the presiding deity along with his consort Soundaranayaki. The deity is enshrined in the form of a Shivling. The temple also has an image of Bhairav. The temple features a five storied Rajagopuram.

Karaikudi Junction Railway Station is the nearest railhead.
