Temple at Coimbatore



Arulmigu Patteswarar Thirukoil is located 6 kilometers away from Coimbatore on Siruvani main road. The temple is an ancient one, built by Karikala Chola over 1500 years ago. The deity of the temple is Lord Shiva (Patteeswarar) and his consort, Pachai Nayaki. There is an exquisite sculpture in the hall, Kanagasabi , also known as Mel Chidambaram.

Legend is that a calf of Kamadhenu, while playing in the Arasu trees forest hit its legs on a hard object which secreted blood. It was discovered to be a sacred Shivling later and hence the temple came into existence. Saints Appar and Sundarar have sung at this temple. The darshan timings are from 6:00 hrs to 13:00 hrs and from 16:00 hrs to 20:30 hrs. There are daily poojas conducted in the temple.
