Arulmigu Anuvavi Subramanyar Thirukoil is located 12 kilometers away from
Coimbatore at
Periathadagam. This is famed as the place where
Lord Muruga appeared before
Lord Anjaneya.
The legend is that while Lord Anjaneya was on his way back bringing Sanjeevani hill, he felt very thirsty and stopped at this place in search of water. On not being able to find water, he prayed to Lord Muruga for succour. The lord appeared and with the help of his weapon 'vel'( the Tamil word for a weapon shaped like a lance or spear) pierced the hill. Suddenly water started to gush out from the hill and thus Anjaneya quenched his thirst.
