Appikonda




Appikonda village is situated on the coast of the Bay of Bengal, about 18 km from Visakhapatnam. It is said that Kapila Mahamuni installed the idol of Somalingeshwara Swamy in this village. Due to this, it is also known as Kapilakonda. The village is renowned for the Shiva temple, which has a huge Nandhi, carved out of black stone. The temple has some inscriptions of 12th century. Mahashivratri festival is celebrated here with great splendor.

Visakhapatnam has a railway station on Kolkata-Chennai rail route.
